Ingredients for making Kunnukku:

Parboiled rice 1/2 cup

Thur dal  1/2 cup

Channa dal 1/4 cup

Urad dal  3 tea spoons

Red chillies 2

Chopped green chillies 1

Chopped onions from 1 onion

Chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves

How to make Kunnukku?

Soak all the dals and rice together after washing them well for 3 hours.

Then drain the water and grind them to coarse thick batter adding required salt and red chillies. Add very little water if necessary water while grinding. The consistency of the batter should be just like Vada batter.

Then add the leaves, onions and green chillies and mix well.

Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Drop small portions of the batter into the oil and fry it to golden brown in medium flame.

If the batter becomes watery don't worry. Add a tb spoon of besan flour or sooji (Semolina)

If onion is not added, then add hing powder and chopped ginger.

This can also be done with excess Adai batter adding some besan flour, raw rice flour and sooji to it.

  1. Hello. Love your dishes. For this recipe is there an alternative for parboiled rice? The place where I live parboiled rice is not available.

    1. Hi! Instead of Parboiled rice you can use raw rice. But increase the urad dal's measurement to 5 tea spoons.

    2. Thank you for the suggestion
