Mustard Rice (Kadugu Sadham)

Ingredients for making Mustard Rice (Kadugu Sadham):

  • Boiled Rice needed for 4 persons
  • Mustard seeds / Kadugu 2 tea spoons
  • Urad dal 1 tea spoon
  • Chana dal 1 tea spoon
  • Coriander seeds 1 tea spoon
  • Asafoetida / Hing powder 1/4 tea spoon
  • Red chillies 5
  • Jaggery powder 2 table spoons
  • Tamarind a gooseberry size
  • Salt 3/4 tea spoon
  • Roasted peanuts 2 tablespoons
  • Curry leaves
  • Sesame / Gingelly oil 3 table spoons


How to make Mustard Rice (Kadugu Sadham)?

Boil rice in a pressure cooker without making it mushy and allow it to cool down in a broad bowl.
Meanwhile heat a pan with 2 tea spoons of oil and fry the dals and corainder seeds together to brown, add asafoetida to the roasted items and take it out.
In the same pan fry the red chillies and tamarind for 30 seconds.
Switch off the stove.
Once the stuff gets cooled down well, add the mustard seeds, salt, jaggery witht he roasted stuff and powder them, keep aside.
Add the rest of the oil to rice.
Now add the peanuts, curry leaves and powder to the rice and mix gently.
The rice is ready.
