Mixed Dal / Lentils Rice

Lentils / Dals of different sizes and colours always find place in the cuisine of vegetarians and they are the major source of protein to us. Here is the recipe of  a delicious, complete and comfort food that gives your family the energy and protein you need for a day...

Ingredients needed for making Mixed Dal / Lentils Rice:


Mixed Lentils of your choice 1 cup

( I used moongh dal, split green gram, thur dal, red thur dal and splict black gram)

Rice 2 cups

Finely chopped ginger 1 tea spoon

Garlic heads 10

Salt to taste

Crushed pepper and cumins 1 tea spoon each

Oil or Ghee 1 tb spoon

Chopped cashews few

Curry leaves, slitted green chillies 2

Hing powder 1/4 tea spoon

Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon




How to make Mixed Dal / Lentils Rice?


Wash the dals together and soak in water for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes wash the rice and add it to the dals in a vessel.
Pour 6 cups of water to it.
Add turmeric powder, required salt, garlics to it.
Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.










Once the steam is released heat a sauteing pan with ghee or oil.
Do the seasoning with pepper, cumin, cashews, hing powder, green chillies, ginger and curry leaves and add to the boiled stuff.
Mix well.
























Serve hot with any vegetable kootu and chips or pappads.
Being summer I made cool cucumber kootu as side dish and served with tapioca crisps.
