A great accompaniment packed with the unique flavor of coriander leaves to have with anything. It goes very well with anything on your platter. In a marriage this tangy pickle was served and I was totally carried away by its taste. To my surprise I couldn't found , out of which vegetable this was made. My hubby brought home a full fresh yellow pumpkin from Kerala few days back. Usually I never waste the fibre part of the pumpkin and make chutney out of it. But it can be kept only for a day since coconut is added. So I was thinking of a way to use the fibre part of the whole pumpkin in a different way. Atlast added some tomato to it and made thokku / pickle out of it and it has become a super hit in my family. We now have it as side dish for roti, idli, dosa and curd rice...

Instant Nellikkai / Amla Pickle

A pickle with minimum oil and hence can have this pickle guilt free and this can be eaten as soon as you make it....


Pre time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins

Ingredients for making Instant Nellikkai / Amla  Pickle :

Nellikkai / Amla / Gooseberries 15
Red chilli powdered 1 full tea spoon
Hing powder / Asafoetida 1/4 tea spoon
Fenugreek 3/4 tea spoon
Salt as required
Sesame / Gingelly oil 3 tea spoons


How to make Instant Nellikkai / Amla  Pickle ?

In a pan dry roast the fenugreek / venthayam to golden brown, powder it and keep aside.
Wash the gooseberries, wipe them out and steam them in an idli cooker or steamer for 20 minutes.
By this time they will become soft and easily you can take the seeds out.
















Heat a pan with oil.
Once oil is heated keep the flame low and add the salt, asafoetida and red chilli powder to the oil and give a fast stir.
Add the boiled gooseberry pieces to it and fry them well.
Let them get fried in low flame for 7 to 8 minutes.
Stir ocassionally.
Add the fenugreek powder and switch off the stove.
Mix well.
Once they get cooled down store in an air tight box , refrigerate and use.

Puli Inji (Sweet & Sour Ginger Pickle)

In Chennai, I attended a family function two weeks before. A professional cook was arranged to cook for the function. The entire menu made by her was simply mind blowing. Out of all the items this Puli Inji made of Ginger, Green chillies and Tamarind became the super hit. She made it in a jiffy and taught us the easiest and tastiest way to do this traditional pickle. It is an awesome accompaniment for rice, roti, dosa, pongal and idlis. Just spread it on chapathis and pack for lunch...

Allam Pachadi is the all time favorite side dish for anything on your plate. This is an Authentic , Traditional pickle/Chutney/Thokku of Andhra Pradesh with heavenly taste.
