Madhulai Rasam / Pomegranate Rasam

Ingredients for making Madhulai Rasam / Pomegranate Rasam :


Tamarind  a lemon size
Tomatoes 2
Green chilli  1
Rasam powder 3 tea spoons
Asafoetida powder 1/4 tea spoon
Boiled thur dal well boiled 1 cup
Madhulai / Pomegranate juice 200 ml
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves



For seasoning:

Mustard seeds and cumin seeds 1 tea spoon
Curry leaves few
Oil or clarified butter 2 tea spoons

How to make Madhulai Rasam / Pomegranate Rasam?


  • Soak tamarind in water and add chopped tomatoes to it.
  • Squeeze well and extract 300 ml of juice.
  • Boil this in a pan adding salt, asafoetida powder, turmeric powder and  green chilli.
  • Once the raw smell goes add the rasam powder to the boiling stuff.
  • After two minutes mix the boiled dal with some water and pour in to the pan.
  • When the stuff starts to give out bubbles add the madhulai / pomegranate juice and switch off the stove.
  • Do the seasoning.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
