Kollu Thogayal (Horsegram Chutney)

A simple, healthy and tasty recipe to  have with hot steaming rice, adding a tea spoon of sesame oil. This gives a real break when had after the days of feast and festivals. Microwaved Pappad, Kollu thogayal and Pepper rasam . What a combination!

Ingredients for making Kollu Thogayal:

  • Kollu (Horsegram) 4 table spoons
  • Red chillies 3 or 4
  • Green Chilli 1
  • Coconut  1 cup
  • Hing powder 1/2 tea spoon
  • Tamarind a small gooseberry size
  • Salt to taste

How to make Kollu Thogayal?

  • Heat a Kadai with 2 tea spoons of oil. 
  • Add the Horsegram and fry it till it splutters and nice aroma comes. 
  • While frying the horsegram add the red chillies and the green chilli too. 
  • Now add the tamarind, salt and hing and give few stirs, switch off.
  • Now put the coconut to the roasted stuff.
  • Once they get cooled down grind to thick chutney with less water.
