Tip #36: Awesome Coconut Tips

Coconuts have a multitude of culinary applications from sweet to savory dishes, from drinks, to appetizers, soups, salads, main courses to desserts, sweets, ice cream. The list is endless.It has numerous health benefits if eaten raw.  Raw coconut when chewed cures the mouth ulcer. 

 

 


Finely chop coconut and fry them in a tablespoon of ghee. Add this to any sweet or dessert to have a crunchy and tasty feel.


Grind 2 table spoons of grated coconut, a piece of ginger and a green chilli to fine paste and mix well with 2 cups of curd. Add salt and chopped coriander leaves. The instant side dish is ready for any Parathas or Dosa.


Grated coconut is added in most of the vegetable curries to enrich taste and quantity.


Instead of adding fresh grated coconut grind grated coconut with a red chilli and cumin seed and add to any vegetable curry to get a different taste.


For vegetables like Potato, Cabbage and raw banana add a small piece of ginger with coconut and dry powder it and add to the vegetable for easy digestion and different flavour.


For vegetable like snake gourd and Ashgourd add green chillies, cumin seeds with coconut and dry powder them.


Add a table spoon of grated coconut and jaggery powder  with puffed rice (Poha) and mix well to get instant tasty evening snack.

 

Dry roast 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds and add it with 3 table spoons of grated coconut and grind it to smooth paste. Use this in any gravy for tasty, thick and generous side dish.

 

Cook the any sprout you have in stock in pressure cooker with required salt. Drain excess water. Saute it with mustard seeds and green chillies with a tea spoon of oil. Add 2 table spoons of grated coconut. The healthy side dish or evening snack is ready.

 

Bored of having Oats porridge? For a change add 2 table spoons of grated coconut in the oats porridge. Instead of sugar add jaggery powder or palm sugar. Enjoy the drink with new taste.

 

Use freshly grated coconut in curries and creamy puddings, or lightly toast it with spices and use as a seasoning.  


Idli, dosa or vada, any savoury snack is generally accompanied by coconut chutney. This popular accompaniment can also be readied in minutes.Take A cup of grated coconut, 3 green chillies, salt, a pinch of hing, a table spoon of  roasted gram. Grind them all together with little water. The tasty chutney is ready.


Any type of south indian tiffin like Idiyappam, Aapam and Puttu tastes very well when served with grated coconut mixed with sugar as topping.


For morning breakfast in a bowl add grated carrot, grated coconut, Sprouted green gram, pepper powder, salt, and a tea spoon of lemon juice. Mix them well and have. easy and healthy breakfast.

 

Thickly grated can be used to make sauce or just simply added to vegetables during sauté. Thinly grated coconut can be added to beverage or in salad.
