  • Cooking time:30 to 45 mins
  • Serves: 4

Ingredients for making Thengai Poli:

For making Pooran:

  • Fresh Grated Coconut from 1 coconut
  • Jagerry powder 3/4 th of the grated coconut
  • Cardamom powder 1/2 tea spoon
  • Ghee 2 tea spoons

For Poli:
  • All purpose flour 200 gms (Maida)
  • Salt 1/4 tea spoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon
  • Oil 2 tb spoons
  • Ghee 4 tb spoons

How to make Thengai Poli?

  • Add turmeric powder and salt to the all purpose flour and mix well with hand.
  • Add water little by little and knead to a tight dough like roti dough.
  • Add 2 tb spoons of oil to it and cover it. Keep aside.

Mix the grated coconut and jagerry in a pan, keep on the stove.
Keep stirring. The moisture in the coconut and the heat makes the jagerry to melt and gives out water.
Keep the stove in medium flame and keep stirring mixing the jagerry and coconut till the water evaporates and the stuff becomes tight.
Add 2 tea spoons of ghee and cardamom powder to it and switch off the stove.
Keep the mixture to get cool down.
Once they get cool down make them to small lemon size balls.
Now take some bigger balls of the dough.
Take two polythene sheets.
Grease one polythene sheet with oil and keep the dough ball on it.
Make it flat to a small circle with the hand or a rolling in.

Keep the coconut stuff in the centre.
Bring the edges to the centre and seal it.
Place another polythene paper on it and gently roll it with the rolling pin and bring to the size of a roti.
Heat a tawa and grease it with ghee.
Cook the polis on both the sides in the tawa as we do for parathas with ghee and serve.
