Verkadalai Sundal (Peanut Sundal)

Of all the Sundal varieties, verkadalai Sundal stands unique because of its distinct taste and flavour. Its a healthy snack too to have with evening tea. An ideal snack to be packed with Children's Lunch box.

  • Soaking time: 1 hr

Ingredients for making Verkadalai Sundal:

  • Raw Peanuts (Un roasted) 500 gms
  • Oil 5 tea spoons
  • Grated coconut 1 tb spoon
  • Mustard seeds, urad dal, hing powder and curry leaves for seasoning

For Powder:

Roast the following ingredients in 2 tea spoons of oil to golden brown, powder them coarsely and keep aside
  • Corainder seeds 1 tb spoon
  • Chana dal 1/2 tb spoon
  • Red chillies 5
  • Cumin seeds 1/4 tea spoon

How to make Verkadalai Sundal?

Soak the peanuts in water for an hour.
Wash the peanuts, add some salt and a pinch of turmeric powder and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
Once the steam is released take the water out from the boiled peanuts if any and keep dry.
Heat a pan with 3 tea spoons oil and do the seasoning with mustard seeds, urad dal and 1/4 teaspoon of hing powder.
After they splutter put the curry leaves.


Transfer the boiled peanuts to the pan and stir well till the moisture is gone.
Add the coconut and the powder to the stuff and mix well.
The healthy, tasty sundal is ready now.
