Ingredients needed for Thaalagam:
Vegetables needed:
- Yellow pumpkin, Mochai, Drumstick, Ash gourd, Brinjal, Broad beans, Taro root, Sweet potato, Carrot, Cucumber Siru kizhangu etc.,
- Tamarind juice extracted from a Lemon size Tamarind 500 ml
- Green chillis slitted 2
Dry roast 1 cup of grated coconut till the colour changes to golden brown keeping the flame medium and keep aside.
Heat 1 tb spoon of oil and roast the following to golden brown:

- Coriander seeds 2 tb spoons (Optional)
- Thur dal 2 tea spoons
- Urad dal 3 tea spoons
- Raw rice 2 tea spoons
- Black sesame seeds 5 tea spoons
- Red chillies 7 or 8
- A small piece of Hing
Transfer the roasted stuff to a bowl.
Grind all the roasted items with roasted coconut together to paste with water and keep aside.
How to make Thaalagam Kuzhambu?
Boil all the vegetables & green chillies with water in a broad pan. When they are cooked add the Tamarind juice. Add salt and turmeric powder. Let them boil till the raw smell goes.
Add the ground paste and curry leaves and mix well. When the kuzhambu thickens saute it with mustard seeds in sesame oil.
The mixed flavours of vegetables, with roasted coconut and sesame gives heavenly taste to relish...
