Vellai Poosanikkai Kootu (White Pumpkin Stew for Rice)

Vellaipoosanikkai kootu is an authentic Tamilnadu Side dish that finds place in the Lunch very often. Because of its high water content it is good for health to keep our body cool. Ingredients for making Vellai Poosanikkai Kootu:


White pumpkin  1 K.g

Moong dal 2 tab spoons

Chana dal 1 tab spoon

Grated coconut 2 tab spoons

Raw rice 2 tea spoons soaked in water for 30 minutes

Cumin seeds 1 tea spoon

Green chillies 2 or 3

Salt to taste

Mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves for seasoning

Oil 1 tea spoon


Method for making Vellai Poosanikkai Kootu:


Cut the vegetable into cubes.


In a pressure pan add the dals at the bottom and the vegetable on it. Add salt, turemric powder and a cup of water.


 

 

 

Pressure cook them together for 1 whistle.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the steam is fully released remove the lid. Again switch on the stove.


Add the ground paste of coconut, cumin seeds, raw rice, green chillies to it and allow to boil till the kootu thickens.


Saute it with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
