Ingredients for making Kalkandu Sadham:
- Rice 1 cup
- Full Cream Milk 4 cups
- Saffron strings 4 or 5
- Kalkandu (Candy /Rocky Sugar) 2 cups
- Roasted nuts 1 tb spoon, Ghee 1 tb spoon
- Cardamom powder 1/4 tea spoon
How to make Kalkandu Sadham?
Wash the rice, strain the water out.
Pour the milk in a pressure cooker pan and add the rice and saffron strings to it.
Stir well.
Close it with the lid and wait till the steam gushes out.
Put the weight and keep the flame to low.
Let it get cooked for 15 minutes.
Switch off the stove.
After 5 minutes open the lid and switch on the stove.
Let the flame be in medium mode.
Stir well and add the kalkandu / Candy sugar. (If the crystals are large in size get it powdered in a mixie)
Stir till the sugar melts and mixes well with the boiled rice.
When every thing comes together add 1 tb spoon of ghee and switch off the stove.
Garnish with nuts.
