Pappu Rotta

Till two days before, I never heard of this recipe name or anything about this. My friend  gave me this recipe and asked me to make this and publish in my blog. She said it is an authentic and special recipe of a particular community of Telugu speaking people and they make this recipe often as break fast. The very next day I made this and we were totally mesmerized by the taste, soft and melting texture of this Pappu Rotta. Thanks to my friend Meena for giving me such a wonderful, easy, different and healthy breakfast recipe...

Ingredients for making Pappu Rotta:

Raw rice 2 cups
Tur dal / Thuvaram paruppu 2 tb spoons
Mustard seeds 1 tea spoon
Urad dal 1 tea spoon
Green chillies chopped 3
Curry leaves
Oil 2 tb spoons
Asafoetida powder 1/2 tea spoon
Turmeric powder a pinch
Salt to taste

How to make Pappu Rotta?

Wash the rice and soak it in water for 2 hours.
Grind it to very fine batter adding salt and water.
Transfer the batter to a bowl.
Wash the mixie jar with 3 cups of water and transfer the water to a pan.
Heat the pan and keep stirring the water.

When it becomes like a porridge add it to the bowl that has the batter and mix well.

Boil or pressure cook the tur dal with water. They should be boiled but firm and not mushy. Keep it aside.

Now heat a dosa tawa and make dosas out of this batter as we make rawa dosa. Let the batter be in the consistency of  milk shake.
In no time the dosas get cooked.

Now with a knife chop the dosa in to small pieces and keep aside.
Heat a pan with oil.

Do the tempering with mustard seeds and urad dal.
Once the dal becomes brown add the green chillies, turmeric powder, asafoetida powder and stir well.

Now add the boiled tur dal with half cup  of water to the pan and mix.

Transfer the dosa pieces to the pan and toss well.
The fantastic breakfast is ready to serve with any chutney.
