A healthy and tasty kuzhambu made from banana flower. Enjoy it with hot steamed rice and potato or sepankizhangu fry..
Ingredients:
Banana flower - 1Toor dal - 1 cupSambar powder - 1 tbspnTamarind - lemon size For Grinding:
Urad dal - 1 tbspnRed chilli - 3 nosJeera - 1 tspn(cumin seeds). Grated Coconut - 3 tbspns For tempering: Mustard seeds, Urad dal , asafoetida and curry leaves.
Method:
Remove the stem( which looks like matchstick) and pull out the feathery plastic like petal from each flower. Cut the flowers into small pieces and soak it in butter milk( 2 tbspn curd mixed with 1 cup water) to avoid change of colour. Pressure cook toor dal with 1 tspn turmeric powder and water.
Saute the items given for grinding except coconut. Now add coconut and grind into a smooth paste.
In a kadai add banana flower( drained and washed). Saute for 2 minutes and add tamarind extract. Now add sambar powder and boil till the banana flower is cooked. Add required salt and toor dal.
Allow it to cook for a minute and add ground paste. Cook for 2 minutes and switch off.
Finally temper it with mustard seeds, urad dal , asafoetida and curry leaves. Vaazhai poo poricha kuzhambu is ready to be served.
