Ellu Sadham (Sesame Rice)

Very healthy and delicious rice variety which is also easy to make. Make this twice in a month to kids to get more iron and calcium in their diet. A simple raitha and papad make this rice more yummy. On Saturdays make this rice as Neividhyam to Lord Saneeswar and seek his blessings...


Ingredients for making Ellu Sadham

Black Sesame 3 table spoon

Corainder seeds 2 tea spoons

Black gram 2 tea spoons

Asafetida - 1/2 tea spoon

Bengal gram 2 tea spoons

Red chillies 10

Tamarind a goose berry size

Jaggery a small piece


Place the sesame in a clean tea filter and show it in the tap and make sure that the sesame is washed and drained well. Then heat the kadai and dry roast the sesame till it splutters well. Transfer it to a plate. Then roast the rest of the ingredients one by one with little oil(except jaggery). Make small pieces of tamarind and fry them too. Then powder everything together with required salt and jagery.

Add the powder to the rice with gingelly/sesame oil . Add the roasted groundnuts and curry leaves and enjoy with crisps.
