Mullangi Sambar (Radish Sambar)

The most flavorful sambars are Shallots Sambar, Drumstick Sambar and Radish Sambar. Each one has its own unique flavor and tastes and dominates the gravy. The Hot radish sambar rice with potato curry tastes delicious. Here is the recipe for the radish sabar without coconut.

 Ingredients for making Radish Sambar:

(Serves 4 people for Lunch)


Radish medium size 2(Peel the skin and cut them into thin rounds)

Shallots 6 to 8 (Optional)

Green chillies slitted 2

Tamarind juice 500 ml from a small lemon size tamarind

Sambar Powder 3 full teaspoons

Boiled thur dal 11/2  cup (Pressure cook  4 tb spoons of thur dal with 200 ml of water and keep aside)


For seasoning:


Mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fenu greek 1 tea spoon each

Red chillies 1 or 2

Curry leaves


How to make Radish Sambar?


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heat a kadai with 2 tea spoons of oil. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek and redchillies. After they splutter add the curry leaves.

Now fry the Chopped radish pieces and shallots in it for few seconds and add the tamarind juice to it.

Add required salt and turmeric powder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once the radish is well cooked add the sambar powder and mix well. (Will take atleast 15 minutes)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now add the boiled thur dal to it and allow to boil for 2 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
