Palak Kichadi

A perfect and comfort one pot meal to have as breakfast or lunch. Here is the simple recipe of the tasty Palak Kichadi...

Ingredients for making Palak Kichadi:

Rice 1 cup
Moongh dal or Thur dal 1/2 cup
Palak / Spinach 1/2 bunch
Cumin seeds / jeeragam 1/2 tea spoon
Chopped tomatoes 2
Green chilli 1
Sambar powder 1 tea spoon
Asafoetida / Hing  powder 1/4 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Ghee 4 tea spoons
Few cashews


How to make Palak Kichadi?

Wash the rice and keep aside.
Wash the greens well, remove the stems and finely chop the leaves.
Heat a pressure pan with ghee.
Do the seasoning with cumin seeds.
Fry the tomatoes and green chilli for a minute.
Add the turmeric powder, sambhar powder and hing powder and stir for few seconds.
Add the chopped greens and mix well.
Put the washed rice and dal in to the pan , stir for a while and pour 4 cups of water and required salt.
Close the pan with the lid and pressure cook up to four whistles.
Garnish with cashews.
