Aval Kaara Kozhukkattai (Tempered and Steamed Poha Balls)

I landed in making this Aval Kara kozhukattai for the first time, when I had sudden guests who should be served with no onion no garlic and simple dinner. Everybody liked it very much and from then Aval Kozhukattai has become one of my favorite tiffin..

Ingredients for making Aval Kaara Kozhukkattai (Tempered and Steamed Poha Balls):

Poha / Aval 500 gms
Mustard seeds 1 tea spoon
Urad dal 1 tea spoon
Chana dal 1 tea spoon
Green chillies 2
Red chillies 2
Hing powder 1/4 tea spoon
Curry leaves
Water 200 ml
Coconut oil 2 or 3 tea spoons


How to make Aval Kaara Kozhukkattai (Tempered and Steamed Poha Balls)?

Wash the Poha well, drain the water out and keep it aside.
Heat a pan with oil. Saute it with mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
Once they splutter and become brown add the chillies, hing powder and curry leaves stir for a while.
Now add the 200 ml water and required salt.
When the water starts boiling add the drained poha and stir well for 2 minutes.
After the stuff gets cooled make it into lemon size balls and steam it out for 10 minutes.
The Aval Kaara Kozhukattai is ready to serve now with any chutney or pickle or sugar.
