Bottlegourd Tomato Kootu without Coconut

Bottle gourd is known to combat excessive thirst in diabetic patients. Bottle gourd is also considered one of the best weight loss foods since it is 96 percent water and provides just 12 calories per 100g of serving. Ingredients for making Bottlegourd Tomato Kootu:


 

Chopped bottlegourd: 1 bowl

Moongh dal : 2 table spoons

Chopped tomatoes : 2

Green chillies: 2

Red chilli (or) Pepper  powder: 1/2 tea spoon

Salt to taste

Dry Roasted Whole wheat flour : 1 tb spoon

Boiled and cooled milk 1 cup


 

 

Method for making Bottle gourd and Tomato Kootu:


1. In a kadai dry roast 1 tb spoon of wheat flour till nice aroma comes and keep it aside.

 


2. Boil the moong dal with 3 cups of water in a pan. When it is half boiled add the bottlegourd pieces and tomato pieces to it.

 


3. Add turmeric powder and chopped green chillies.

 


4. Add water till the vegetable immerses fully. Let them boil till the vegetable becomes soft.

 


5. Add salt and chilli or pepperpowder to it.

 


6. Add milk to the wheat flour and mix well without lumps. add it to the boiling kootu. It will be thickened. Add fresh curry leaves.

 


7. Saute it with mustard seeds and urad dal in a tea spoon of oil.

 


 

Note: This is a very healthy side dish for rice and rotis since no coconut and very less oil is used...
