Idli Manchurian

Quick and delicious snack with leftover idlis. Idli Manchurian is very ideal to serve as starter, snack or evening tiffin. The idlis are shallow fried and sautéed with Chinese sauces and Indian spices. They give fantastic aroma and no doubt that is a tempting dish...

Ingredients for making Idli Manchurian:

(SERVES 3 PEOPLE)

Idlis   8 to 10 Idlis (Cut them into small cubes)
Thinly sliced onions and Capsicum 2 tb spoons each
Spring onions 2 tb spoons
Finely chopped green chillies, ginger and garlic 1 tea spoon each
Tomato sauce 1 tb spoon
Soya sauce 1 tea spoon
Green chilli sauce 2 tea spoons
Cumin seed powder 1/2 tea spoon
Cloves and cinnamon powder 1/4 tea spoon
Salt to taste and Kashmiri chilli powder 1/4 tea spoon
Oil 3 tb spoons



How to make Idli Manchurian?

  • Make button idlis or cut usual idlis into quarters.
  • Heat a broad pan with oil. Add chopped chillies, garlic, ginger and clove cinnamom powder and stir well.
  • Then fry the onions and capsicum for 30 seconds. They need not be fried longer. They should be crunchy.
  • Now add required salt, and all sauces and powders mentioned above and stir well.
  • Add the idli pieces and keep the flame low.
  • Mix gently enabling the spices and sauces to coat well on the idlis.
  • Let the idlis get shallow fried slowly in spices for at least 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Garnish with spring onions and serve hot.
