Method for making Senai Kizhangu Masiyal (Mashed Yam):

Peel the skin off and cut the vegetable into small cubes.

Pressure cook the yam pieces with turmeric and salt and keep aside.

Heat 2 tea spoons of oil and saute it with mustard seeds, urad dhal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and hing powder. Now fry the chillies and ginger pieces well.

Add the boiled yam with 2 cups of water.

If you want it to be more spicy, 1 tea spoon of sambar powder can be added, reducing the number of chillies.

Add the boiled thur dal and mix well. Since salt is added already when yam is cooked add very little salt needed now.

Switch off  the stove and add the grated coconut and squeeze one full lemon and mix well.
