Tomato Rasam

This easy and yummy Tomato  Rsam is the most favorite rasam of my family and it has the goodness of a soup too. No need to pressure cook the dhal for this rasam. The mesmerizing aroma of this rasam will make you to sip one more cup....

Ingredients for making Tomato Rasam:


Tamarind a gooseberry size (Half from the usual measurement of other rasams)

Ripened tomatoes 5

Coriander seeds 3 tea spoons

Red chillies 2

Pepper 2 tea spoons

Cumin seeds 2 tea spoons

Curry leaves 10

Thur dal 3 tea spoons

Garlic heads 3 or 4 (Optional)

Ghee 2 tea spoons

Mustard seeds

Turmeric powder

Coriander leaves




How to make Tomato Rasam?


In a vessel soak the tamarind and chopped tomatoes (3 tomatoes) in hot water for 20 minutes. After they get cooled squeeze them with hands and mash well and extract the juice from them and keep aside.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Powder the coriander seeds,red chillies, pepper, cumin seeds, garlic, curry leaves and thur dal to a very coarse powder and keep aside.


Heat a pan with 2 tea spoons of ghee. Add the mustard seeds. After they get splutter put the powder into it and fry for few seconds without getting burnt. A fine aroma comes now. Add the tamarind, tomato juice to it with turmeric powder and salt. Allow them to boil till the raw smell goes.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now chop the remaining 2 tomatoes in to small pieces and add to the boiling rasam and add required water. When it starts giving out small bubbles add coriander leaves and switch off the stove.
