Tempered Chickpea / Chana


A healthy evening snack for any age group. We prefer to take this for short field trips and picnics since it is a stomach filling one and free from oil. Not only healthy but also a traditional healthy snack that is made on festive or vrat days....

Soaking time: Over night

Cooking time: 20 mins
Serves: 4


Ingredients for making Tempered Chickpea / Chana:


White chana / Kabul Chana 250 gms
Shredded coconut 2 tb spoons
Red chillies 2
Green chillies 2
Curry leaves
Mustard seeds 1/2 tea spoon
Hing powder 1/4 tea spoon
Red chilli powder a pinch
Turmeric powder a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tea spoons




How to make Ingredients for making Tempered Chickpea / Chana?


Soak the Chick peas for overnight or 8 hours.
Drain the water out and add some fresh water and pressure cook adding salt up to 4 or 5 whistles.
Wait for the steam to release. Take the water out and keep the boiled chana aside.












Heat a pan with 2 tea spoons of oil.
Saute it with mustard seeds, curry lleaves and the chillies. Add the hing powder, turmeric powder and the chilli powder.
Mix well. Add the boiled chana and stir well. Check out for the salt. If needed add more.
Add the coconut and stir well.
Now the tempered chana is ready serve or pack.
