Veg Gothumai / Wheat Rava Upma

For making any type of Upma I follow a simple technique to get a non sticky upma with perfect consistency and I never keep stirring the stuff while cooking. Ingredients for making Veg Gothumai Rava Upma:


  • Gothumai Rava / Wheat Semolina / Wheat Sooji / Broken Wheat  1 cup (200 gms)
  • Finely chopped veggies of your choice all together 1 cup
  • Finely chopped green chillies & ginger 1 tea spoon each
  • Curry leaves and Coriander leaves chopped
  • Mustard seeds, Urad dal and Chana dal 1 tea spoon each for garnishing
  • Oil 2 tb spoons



How to make Gothumai Rava Upma?


  • Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil.
  • Do the seasoning with mustard seeds and dals.
  • Once they become brown add the green chillies, ginger and curry leaves.
  • Give few stirs and add the finely veggies. Stir for a minute.
  • Now add the Wheat Rava to the pan and keep the flame in medium.
  • Add required salt also.
  • Stir the stuff together for one or two minutes and pour 4  and 1/2 cups of water to it.
  • Mix well.
  • Close the pan with a lid tightly.
  • Keep the flame to the minimum. (This is very important)
  • Let it to cook for 15 minutes.
  • Switch off the stove.
  • Open the lid after 10 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and mix well.
  • You can see the soft and lump free colourful upma smiling at you!
  • Take a plate of Upma, sprinkle a tea spoon of sugar on it and enjoy...
