Watermelon Rind Dosa

I came to know about this dosa very recently while browsing. I was surprised to know that the rind portion of the Water melon just below the skin can be used to make delicious dosas. We usually consume the pinkish and red part of the fruit and throw away the rest. You will be amazed to see the result after making this recipe and you will never hereafter throw away the rinds any more...

Ingredients for making Watermelon Rind Dosa:

Water melon rinds 2 cups with some pink pieces
Idli rice / Par boiled rice/ Puzhungal arisi 3 cups
Poha / Aval / Beaten rice 3 cups
Fenugreek / Venthayam 1 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Oil for making dosas

How to make Watermelon Rind Dosa ?

If you want to get pink dosas use some pink parts of the fruits too as I used. Or else take the while rind alone. (throw away the green skin)

Wash the rice well and soak it with fenugreek for three hours.
After three hours add the watermelon rind pieces and pink pieces to the mixie jar and grind them to juice. Keep the juice in a bowl.
Wash the Poha well and drain the water out.
Drain the water out from the soaked rice too.
Mix the rice and poha together and add them to the mixie jar.
Grind to fine batter to dosa batter consistency adding the watermelon juice instead of water.

If the batter is thick after using the juice, then add water .
Add salt, mix well and allow to ferment for overnight or 8 hours.
Now the batter is ready for making dosas as we do regular dosa.
Serve it hot with any chutney and milagai podi .
