Nellikkai Sadham (Amla / Gooseberry Rice)

Ingredients for Nellikkai Sadham (Amla / Gooseberry Rice) :

Nellikkai / Gooseberry 5
Cooked rice 1 bowl ( as required for 2 persons)
Sesame / gingelly oil 5 tea spoons
Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon
Mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal for seasoning
Peanuts / Verkadalai 1 table spoon
Chopped green chillies 2
Red chilli 2
Finely grated ginger 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves

How to make Nellikkai Sadham (Amla / Gooseberry Rice)?


Wash the gooseberries and steam them in idli plates or steamer for 15 minutes or microwave for 10 minutes.


Remove the seeds and chop them to thin slices and keep aside.
Heat a pan with oil and do the seasoning with mustard seeds, dals, red chillies and curry leaves.
Add the peanuts and when the dals are brown put the green chillies, ginger and gooseberry pieces to the oil and fry for two minutes.

Sprinkle required salt and turmeric powder.
Now add the boiled rice to the pan and gently mix well.








Serve or pack with any crisps like pappads or chips.
