Tomato Dal Fry

Ingredients for making Tomato Dal Fry :

Masoor dal or Thur dal 200 gms
Finely chopped ripened tomatoes from 3 tomatoes
Slitted green chillies 2 and red chilli 1
Cumin seeds / Jeeragam  3/4 tea spoon
Coriander seed powder 2 tea spoons
Cumin seed powder 1/2 tea spoon
Red chilli powder 1 tea spoon
Sugar 1 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon
Oil 2 table spoons
Kasuri methi leaves 2 tea spoons crushed
Butter or thick coconut milk  for garnishing (optional)


How to make Tomato Dal Fry?

Wash the dal with water and keep aside.
Heat a Pressure cooker or pressure  pan with oil.
Once it becomes hot enough  add the tomatoes and fry with green chillies till they become soft.
Add all the powders, sugar to it and stir for few seconds.
Put  the washed dal in to it and add 6 cups of  water to it and mix well.
Close the pan and allow them to cook well atleast for up to 5 whistles.
Once the steam is released, open the cooker lid and again switch on the stove and wait till the gravy thickens.
Add Kasuri methi leaves.
Mix well and switch off the stove.
Do the seasoning with cumin seeds and red chilli and add it to the dal.
Garnish with some butter and coriander leaves.
