Butter Tawa Idli

I happened to watch the recipe of making this Hyderabad street food in you tube which was described by one of my favorite chef Vah Chef. What a Yummy food it is!!! The idlis roasted in butter with freshly roasted & ground dal powder gives exotic feel and thanks to him for the lovely recipe,,

  • Cooking time: 15 mins
  • Serves: 3

Ingredients for making Butter Tawa Idli:

  • Left over idlis or fresh idlis 10
  • Butter 3 table spoons
  • Urad dal 4 tea spoons
  • Chana dal 3 tea spoons
  • Roasted gram / pottu kadalai 3 tea spoons
  • White sesame seeds 2 tea spoons
  • Red chillies 12
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tea spoon
  • Fresh grated coconut 2 table spoons
  • Very finely chopped onions 2 table spoons
  • Chopped coriander and curry leaves


How to make Butter Tawa Idli?

Heat a pan and dry roast red chillies, roasted gram, dals and sesame seeds separately one by one till they become golden brown.
Finally add the grated coconut also and fry in low flame patiently till it becomes golden brwon.
Alow the roasted stuff to get cool down.
Then powder them to coarse powder adding some salt and keep aside.
Now heat a tawa or a pan with flat base with 1 table spoon of butter.
Add 3 tea spoons of powder to it and add some chopped onions and curry leaves to the melted butter.

Fry the onions for a minute and now place 3 or 4 idlis according to the size of the tawa on it.
Slightly press them with the ladle.
After 3 minutes flip them to the next side.

Once both the sides are well roasted transfer them to a plate.
Garnish with some fresh chopped onions and coriander leaves and serve.
Repeat the same process witht he rest of the idlis too.
