Thengai Theratipaal - A Tirunelveli Special Delight for Diwali

Theratipal is the  delicious dessert and the authentic sweet of the natives of Tirunelveli. We usually make Theratipaal with milk and sugar or Thengai theratipaal with coconut and jagerry. But here people do it with coconut, milk and jagerry or sugar. It tastes divine. Make this mouthwatering sweet for Diwali and relish its taste...

Ingredients for making Thengai Theratipaal:

Whole Milk - 1 litre

Fresh grated Coconut - 2 cups

Jagerry powdered - 2 cups or Sugar 2 cups

Pure ghee - 2 tea spoons

Note: This sweet does not need any flavouring agent like cardamom or Saffron.

Method for making Thengai Theratipaal:

The right stage to add coconut

Take a heavy bottomed kadai or pan or Pressure pan. Heat the milk. Once it boils well keep the flame in medium and cook. Stir it then and there. Wait till it becomes half in quantity. When it thickens and the colour changes to light brown add the powdered jagerry or Sugar. Mix well and keep stirring. When it becomes thick to the consistency of idli batter add the coconut and keep stirring. When everything mixes well and comes like a ball without sticking to the corners add just 2 teaspoons of ghee and remove from the stove.

This is the traditional delicacy of my place and my friends make this regularly for Diwali. I learnt to make this from my friend and from then it has become our favorite too.The combined taste of condensed milk, coconut and caramelized Sweet gives an exotic taste!!!!
