A healthy and spicy chutney/dip made with cabbage but even cabbage haters couldn't find out that it is made of cabbage when you taste it. A good side dish to have with any tiffin like idli, dosa, chappathi, Bread toast and also with rice.
Grated or finely chopped cabbage from 250gms of cabbage Chopped onions from 1 onion Urad dal 2 tea spoons Chana dal 2 tea spoons Red chillies 3 or 4 Finely chopped ginger 1/2 tea spoon Tamarind pieces 2 pinches Salt to taste Oil 3 tea spoons
How to make Cabbage Chutney?
Heat a pan with 1 tea spoon of oil and fry the dals and red chillies. When the dals start to change their colour add the onions and tamarind pieces and keep frying.
When they become golden brown add the ginger pieces and stir. Transfer to a plate. In the same pan add 2 tea spoons of oil and saute the cabbage in medium flame till they change the colour and become dull. Allow the stuff to cool. Add salt and grind all the fried items together to chutney adding required water. Saute it with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
Note: A table teaspoon of fresh coconut can be added if you are making it for rice as side dish.
