Ingredients for making Ulundhu Bonda (Urad dal Dumplings):

Urad dal 2 cups
Red chillies 3
Green chillies 2
Raw rice 1 tea spoon
Finely chopped onions 2
Finely chopped curry leaves 2 tb spoons

How to make Ulundhu Bonda (Urad dal Dumplings)?

Wash urad dal and rice &  soak in water for 1 hour. Then drain out the water completely out. Add the chillies and required salt and grind in a blender and run for few minutes. Then add little water and grind to soft smooth paste till the batter becomes fluffy.
Take it out, add onions and curry leaves. Mix well.

Heat oil in a pan and take small balls out of the batter and drop in to the oil.
Wait till the ball come up to the surface from the bottom of the pan and flip off them with a laddle.
Once the dumplings become golden brown take them out. Serve hot with Coconut Chutney

Note:

  • I usually add red chillies to get nice orange colour. You van also add green chillies alone.
  • Reduce the number of the chillies and add crushed pepper corns.
