Kollu Podi (Horsegram Powder)

 

Horse gram known as Kollu in Tamil is the legume available in brown and black colors. It is a packed with many health benefits for all walks of people. It has many nutrients like proteins, iron, calcium etc., Have some kollu podi with hot rice adding a tea spoon of sesame oil or ghee and enjoy the tasty and healthy diet..

Ingredinets for making Kollu Podi (Horsegram Powder)


Kollu (Horsegram)  2 cups

Roasted gram 1 table spoon

Moong dhal 1 table spoon

Thur dhal 1/2 table spoon

Red chilllies 3

Pepper 2 tea spoons

Cumin seeds 1/2 tea spoon

Garlic 6 to 8

Salt to taste

 




 

 

Method for making Kollu Podi (Horsegram powder)




Wash the horsegram well in water and drain the water. 

 

In a heavy bottomed pan without oil fry the peppercorns, cumin seeds and crystal separately and keep them aside.

 

Now dry roast  the horsegram till they pop out and nice aroma comes. Keep it aside.

 

Dry roast the moong dhal and roasted gram separately till the color changes to brown and keep aside.

 

Fry the Thur dhal, red chillies and garlic together with a teaspoon of oil till thur dal becomes brown and keep aside.


After all the ingredients come to room temperature grind them to powder and store in an air tight box.


You can have this with rice or as side dish for idli and dosa by adding some sesame oil.
