Ingredients for making Tomato Tamarindless Sambar:
Tomatoes 5
Green chillies 4
Red chillies 2
Thur dhal and Moong dhal 2 tb spoons each
Mustard seeds, fenu greek, cumin seeds 1/2 tea spoon each for seasoning
Hing powder 1 tea spoon
Curry leaves and coriander leaves
Coriander seed powder 2 tea spoons
Red chilli powder 1 tea spoon
Oil 1 tb spoon
How to make Tomato Tamarindless Sambar:
Boil both the dals together with water in a pressure cooker and keep aside.
Heat a pan with oil. Saute it with mustard seeds, cumin seeds,fenu greek and red chillies. Add the hing after they get splutter. Now add slitted green chillies and fry. Add the chopped tomatoes and stir for two minutes. Add turmeric powder and 2 cups of water. Add required salt.
When the tomatoes boil well and become soft and mashed add 2 tea spoons of coriander powder and 1 tea spoon of red chilli powder. Let it to boil for 2 minutes. Dilute the boiled dal in a cup of water and add to the boiling mixture. When everything mixes well comes to a sambar consistency garnish with the leaves and switch off the stove.
Note: Green chillies and Hing give special flavour to this sambar tastes very yummy.
