Vazhaikkai Masala Fry (Rawbanana / Plantain Masala Fry)

Raw banana masala fry is a great side dish for any rice. Boiled Raw banana tempered with spices and coated with coconut masala gives a delicious taste and aroma. This masala fry tastes heavenly to have with curd rice in the lunch box too.


Ingredients for making Vazhaikkai Masala Fry:


Raw Bananas 4

Oil 4 tb spoons

Coconut 2 tb spoons   

Fennel seeds/Saunf (Sombu) 1 tea spoon

Garlic heads 4

Red chillies 4 or 5

Mustard seeds 1 tea spoon

Urad dal 1 tea spoon

Curry Leaves

Turmeric powder 1/4 tea spoon



How to make Vazhaikkai Masala Fry:


Peel the skin of the Raw banana and cut them into round pieces of 1/4 inch thickness.

Boil them in water adding some salt and tumeric powder till they get cooked.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

See to it that they are cooked soft but not over boiled.Drain the water out and keep the vegetable aside.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a mixie jar coarsely grind coconut, garlic, redchillies and saunf without adding water and keep aside.

Heat a wok or pan with oil and saute it with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.

Once they splutter and the dal become brown add turmeric powder and required salt(Keep in mind that already some salt is added while boiling) to the oil and mix well.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now add the drained raw banana to it and stir carefully with a flat sharp edged ladle without breaking the vegetable.

Keep the flame in medium and fry the vegetable for 10 more minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally add ground masala paste and stir well.

The yummy, spicy masala Raw banana fry is ready now.
